In February 2008, the board of HydroMet announced approval to triple our recycling capacity from 12,000 tonnes to 36,000 tonnes per annum of used lead acid batteries at its Unanderra battery recycling facility. HydroMet now has capacity to recycle up to one-third of the estimated 90,000 tonnes to 110,000 tonnes of lead acid batteries used in Australia. This enables HydroMet to make a dramatic positive impact on Australia’s environmental footprint by both recycling the battery components and producing valuable products for consumption in the lead metal, plastic and acid recycling industries.
